Civil Partnership

For the first time, in December 2005 same sex couples are able to register their relationship and create what is known as a formal Civil Partnership. Civil Partnership gives certain rights which are similar to those of a married couple.

It is important that when registering your Partnership that you take advice from the outset, similar to that of a Pre-Nuptial Agreement. MK Legal will provide you with full advice upon a Pre Civil Partnership Agreement, the registration of your Partnership and should you later go your separate ways, advise you on the dissolution and resolution of your agreement.

What is a Civil Partnership?

The Civil Partnership Act came into force on 5 December 2005. A "Civil Partnership" is a relationship between two people of the same sex, which has been formed by registration in England & Wales or, alternatively, a relationship which has been formed overseas but is recognised in England & Wales.

We have produced a FACT SHEET which explains "What is a Civil Partnership?" and information on the termination of a Civil Partnership.
